Discover the scenic and wildlife-rich contrasts of northern and southern Tanzania with this 3-day safari from Arusha to Mikumi National Park. Begin your journey exploring the forested slopes and volcanic craters of Arusha National Park before heading south to the open savannahs of Mikumi—a park often compared to the Serengeti for its landscapes and animal density. Perfect for those short on time but seeking a rich variety of landscapes and wildlife experiences.
Day 1: Arusha to Arusha National Park – Start your adventure with a short drive to Arusha National Park, home to Mount Meru, the Momella Lakes, and Ngurdoto Crater. Spot giraffes, zebras, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and a variety of birdlife. Enjoy a game drive and, if time allows, an optional walking safari or canoeing on the lakes. Later in the afternoon, begin the journey south toward Mikumi with an overnight stop along the route (depending on arrival time and distance).
Day 2: Full Day Safari in Mikumi National Park – Arrive in Mikumi National Park and embark on a full-day game drive. The park is renowned for its vast plains and frequent sightings of elephants, lions, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, and a variety of antelope. The Mkata Floodplain is particularly rich in game and a photographer’s delight. Spend the evening at a lodge or camp inside or near the park.
Day 3: Morning Game Drive & Return – Enjoy an early morning game drive to catch predators returning from a night hunt. After breakfast, begin your journey back with optional stops at local villages or craft shops along the way. Depending on your schedule, you can return to Arusha or continue to your next destination.
